Our client is a well respected test and measurement manufacturer who is looking to add an Application Engineer to their staff due to growth. Our client is small enough that they are able to work close with their customers, and therefore are able to move into new markets quickly. The Application Engineer is a key person who has direct contact with the customer needs, product knowledge and future product development.  They are in a position to hear customer requirements and deficiencies in market offerings that are potential opportunities for product enhancements and new development.  A strong technical background is required to be able to understand the customer’s applications and propose credible solutions.

  • Technical degree in electrical engineering or physics
  • Analytical thinking to investigate and solve technical problems with electronic equipment
  • Interpersonal skills to interview prospective customers, listen to their needs and suggest appropriate solutions
  • Ability to deal with frustrated customers and assist them in solving their challenges or correct their misunderstandings without making the situation worse.
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly to describe complex technical activities to unfamiliar users
  • Understand the products you support on both a functional and circuit level.
  • Research new applications and experiment with instruments to solve customer’s problems.  Write about these experiments to help others.
  • Understand the working environments where instruments are applied and how these environments affect the measurements customers are making.
  • Write user manuals, marketing and training materials.
  • Evaluate products in development for ease of use and conformance to specifications.
  • Write application notes and articles to help customers visualize product uses and communicate benefits.
  • Document and recommend additional product features based on customer needs to seed future development.
  • Participate in product development teams as the customer’s voice and as a source of market requirements.
