Our client owns and operates a fleet of power plants located in the PJM and NYISO regions. They have a current need for an I&C/Electrical Supervisor.

The position is a supervisor for the electrical maintenance department supporting day to day production activities for a 1000MW electric generating station in Astoria, NY. The plant consists of three large steam turbine driven units built in the 1950’s.  The individual will report to the Maintenance Manager and will be required to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in the engineering, operations, and finance departments.  Whilst the majority of work will be at the Astoria site there will be a need to work at the Narrows and Gowanus gas turbine sites on occasions. 

Job Role
  • Motivate, manage, and mentor a workforce of 10-15 electricians (IC&E)
  • Set and communicate priorities, exercise independent judgement, and make intelligent business decisions
  • Collaborate with other departments such as operations, engineering, mechanical maintenance, vendors, purchasing, and warehouse to solve problems and provide resources for the electrical department
  • Be available to cover a facility which operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week
  • Provide technical oversite to electrical technicians performing maintenance, troubleshooting of existing plant equipment to maximize equipment availability, reliability, and efficiency. 
Required Skills and Experience
  • 3-7 years previous supervisory experience managing trades people in a union environment. Previous experience should show a history of developing and disciplining direct reports.
  • At least five years of experience in a power plant or similar industrial setting with practical appreciation of the technical issues
  • In depth technical knowledge of industrial Electrical systems including protective relays, test equipment, electrical switchgear, and control systems
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft word, excel and outlook.   Must be able to quickly learn and become proficient at the work management system used to track work orders, order materials, and check inventories.
  • Print reading, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
