This position will provide leadership, direction and execution of all regulatory and food safety functions for multiple plants to ensure all products produced meet or exceed all customer, regulatory and company food safety requirements. Primary focus will be on plants in Georgetown, DE and Washington, IN. Individual may be choose to reside at either of these locations. This position will also have primary responsibility for facilities in DE, VA, CA and WA. Specific duties include:
Conduct training, analysis and direction to Director of Operations as well and the Food Safety staff on trends and developments that can affect the regulatory environment at each plant.
Manage all activities of the Food Safety department in a manner which results in consistent safe products that meet all regulatory requirements set forth by USDA/FSIS and FDA if appropriate.
Develop, document, and implement HACCP processes/ procedures, microbial interventions to ensure compliance to all regulatory and company requirements. Maintain all facilities in a continuous state of readiness for GFSI audits and assurance to GFSI standards.
Ensure that the Food Safety Departments are properly organized, staffed and trained to meet and achieve plant and departmental goals.
Manage the activities of the Food Safety Departments in a manner that keeps plants and upper management fully informed on any issues and assists in achieving food safety goals.
Enforce company's food safety and quality programs and maintains the required documentation and provide continuing education of plant associates as required.
Audit Food Safety Programs for consistency, accuracy, and ensuring standardization in development. Provide timely, accurate and relevant data and analysis.
BS Degree or higher in the area of poultry, meat, or food science with a minimum of 8 years QA/Food Safety related experience in Food or Poultry plus
Good analytical and communication (both oral and written) skills.
Experience in further processing desired.
Must have or complete certification status as Certified Food Safety Manager or equivalent certification.
Knowledge of poultry/Food processing principles
Understanding of management principles and team concepts.
General knowledge of plant functions – production, maintenance; warehouse; shipping and sanitation.
MUST be able to travel at least 50% of time to multiple plants.
